Pit Bulls “Up In Smoke” began competing in professional Kansas City Barbecue Society events in 2010. We took on the world of professional competition straight out of the gate having never competed in any backyard events prior to our start. Danny & Rebecca Coogle began competing in Georgia and have since expanded to the Southeastern states including AL, TN, SC, NC, and MS.
Our first year of competition brought us success bringing home six Top 5 finishes and finishing 5th Place out of 250+ teams in the Georgia Barbecue Championship. We were thrilled with our 2010 competition year stats with it having been our first year ever competing in barbecue.
The 2011 competition year brought us even further in our professional standings taking home four Reserve Grand finishes with forty Top 10 category wins and finishing 4th in the Georgia Barbecue Championship (2nd among the 248 GA Teams competing.) The 2011 competition year also had our team placed in the top 50 professional BBQ teams world-wide out of over 5000 teams (quite an achievement for the team). In 2012, Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" rose yet again, taking home a Reserve Grand Overall Finish in the Georgia Barbecue Championship and receiving accolades in the top 25 finishers for the KCBS team of the year placing 14th Overall in Brisket and 4th Overall in Pork. We had a fantastic competition year and ended the season with much to celebrate.
Our 2013 competition year will not be devoted so much to competition as it will be promoting our Pit Bulls Online BBQ School and continuing to support our amazing rubs and barbecue injectors which can be found in our Barbecue Store page. We believe in these products and know that our rubs helped us achieve these top accolades. Our injection recipes, sauce recipes, and cook methods available in our online bbq school at www.pitbullsbbqschool.com also helped us receive top honors. The school has also helped countless others win Grands and top 5 placements in all categories. It's been an amazing journey watching our students take home some great trophies they can be very proud of.
Just to think, it all started with a stick-burner, a pop-up tent, some hickory wood, some soul, a lot of cold sleepless nights and blazing hot days, oh and lets’ not forget…determination! With all that, we picked up some great sponsorship by Royal Oak Charcoal and Moore’s Marinade and we have been featured numerous times on BBQ Superstars. We are looking forward to making an appearance on Barbecue Pitmaster’s this year and filming for the show will begin in March,2013 for our team. Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" Takes Home RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION at the Georgia BBQ Championship in February, 2013
The 2012 Competition Season came to a close with Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" coming in Reserve Grand Champion in the Georgia State BBQ Championship. We took a respectable 2nd Place Ribs, 3rd Place Pork, and 4th Place Brisket finishing off the competition year strong. We are proud of the work we put into our 2012 season and our awesome finishes.
We also took home a 4th Place Pork and 14th Place Brisket in the Overall KCBS Team of the Year Standings for 2012 - no small feat! A great deal of hard work and dedication went into finishing strong in all aspects of our competition year. A big thank you to all of our sponsors who helped make it possible! Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" Takes Home 4th Place Overall at the Georgia BBQ Championship in January 2012
Another great competition season drew to a close in 2011 with Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" taking home a nice 4th Place Overall Finish at the GBC. Glitz and glamour abounded in January, 2012 as our name was called to the stage for other awards as well - 3rd Place Overall GA Team in Chicken, 3rd Place Overall GA Team in Ribs, 4th Place Overall GA Team in Pork, and 7th Place Overall GA Team in Brisket. We are extremely happy with our 2011 Competition Year and are out to catch that Grand Champion spot in 2012. We were among a host of other winning BBQ Teams and want to extend our congratulations to the top finishers and all the teams who made the BBQ trail exciting. God Bless our BBQ brethren this upcoming season. Will see you all on the trail!
