May 7, 2011 - Our first Georgia barbecue competition for the season. Oh, and what a grand start to the season it was-Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" took home a respectful Reserve Grand Champion, placing 1st in Brisket, 2nd in Chicken, 5th in Ribs, and 8th in Pork. Couldn't have asked for much better...well...perhaps Grand - there's always next time! On a serious note, it was a smooth morning and my TNT Southern Smoker didn't disappoint! Turn-ins went well, and the meats were fantastic. Had a wonderful time with some great bbq comerades at a terrific venue. Those of you who didn't participate in this one should do so next year! The event was very well organized and the venue was beautiful! It was a smooth-running operation...great job to all of those who saw to perfection! See all of you on the trail! Animal Rescue Fundraising Event-Proceeds Benefit Three No-Kill Shelters (November 20th, 2010)11/4/2010 On November 20th, 2010, Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" Professional BBQ Team and Planet Ink Tattoo of Kennesaw, GA are hosting a fundraising and pet adoption event for the Forgotten Paws Pet Rescue, Homeward Bound Pet Rescue, and Friends to the Forlorn Pit Bull Rescue Group.
http://www.forgottenpaws.com/ http://friendstotheforlorn.com/index.htm http://www.adoptapet.com/shelter76770-pets.html We encourage everyone who can make it to come out and show your support for animals in need. The proceeds will help spay, neuter, and vaccinate many dogs all looking for good "forever homes". You will even have the opportunity to meet some of these wonderful dogs and maybe even adopt and bring one into your family. Through no choice of their own, these animals were put into circumstances beyond their control, whether lost, abandoned, turned over due to difficult economic times, or just not wanted, they have found themselves calling these amazing "No-Kill" animal shelters "home" while they anxiously await their "forever family" to find them! We all know that these shelters would not exist if it weren't for the generosity of others to help support and fund them, not to mention the selfless sacrifice of the "angels" who dedicate their lives to helping these animals. This is our opportunity to give back and help support their efforts, so let us not be the only ones who show we care - Come out and support them - tickets will be raffled off for some fine tattoo work, we will be serving up some fantastic barbecue, and you'll have an opportunity to meet some great people (and animals!) This effort is dear to our hearts and we hope you feel the same, so we look forward to seeing everyone on November 20th at Planet Ink Tattoo located at 2500 Cobb Pkwy, Ste A3,Kennesaw, GA (for those of you who are familiar with Kennesaw it is in the Olde Town Grill/Goodwill Shopping Center.) Visit us on our facebook page at Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" for more information on the event! Oh, and we are also looking for sponsors...anyone interested please contact Danny Coogle for more information! Talladega, the name says it all! DegaQue, synonymous with Talladega...The "King of the Pit" barbecue competition was fantastic - what a showing with some top teams across the country! We had the privilege of competing against the best of the best this past weekend and what a time it was. Congratulations to all the teams who competed - especially the top 20! It was an adrenaline rush with the sounds of racecars and trucks flying around the speedway, engines roaring, while we cooked some hard-core barbecue not far away. Action on the track...action outside of the track...crazy competition both on and off the speedway. Having pulled of 15th Overall at our 1st event outside of Georgia made us proud. Taking 3rd Place in Ribs (beating out the "Godfather of Ribs", Johnny Trigg) sent us reeling out of our skin! Meeting new BBQ brethren, cooking for the Moore's Marinade team, Kenny Schrader and his team, and once again making some great friends in the process was just great. Thanks to everyone who took the time to come out and support a great competition! Job well done to all...
Gearing up for Degaque "King of the Pit" at the Talladega Superspeedway this weekend - October 29th & 30th. Just competed in Dalton, GA at the Liberty Tree Festival. Won't be unpacking much - gettin ready for the big one. Looking forward to hearing those cars barrell by as we cook some great barbecue! Coming up with ideas on the water issue (only community water area available - none at the site itself.) Will be camping out for the weekend. Should be interesting.
Hey Friends! Here are some great tailgate tips for the football & BBQ enthusiast. Thought I'd share them with you (being how it's football season right now.)
1) Make a complete standard list of things you will use at every tailgate party. 2) Delegate chores to your team members AHEAD OF TIME. 3) Plan your menu a week ahead of the event and pick up groceries mid-week. (This way, if you happen to forget something, you're not scrambling last minute to get it!) 4) Cook what you can at home or have your team members bring prepared dishes to the event. (This saves time and energy and gives you all more time to enjoy the party!) 5) Don't forget the football!!! 6) A small inflatable kiddie pool works great as a cooler - just blow up, fill up with ice, and store your drinks! Happy Tailgating!! |
