May 7, 2011 - Our first Georgia barbecue competition for the season. Oh, and what a grand start to the season it was-Pit Bulls "Up In Smoke" took home a respectful Reserve Grand Champion, placing 1st in Brisket, 2nd in Chicken, 5th in Ribs, and 8th in Pork. Couldn't have asked for much better...well...perhaps Grand - there's always next time! On a serious note, it was a smooth morning and my TNT Southern Smoker didn't disappoint! Turn-ins went well, and the meats were fantastic. Had a wonderful time with some great bbq comerades at a terrific venue. Those of you who didn't participate in this one should do so next year! The event was very well organized and the venue was beautiful! It was a smooth-running operation...great job to all of those who saw to perfection! See all of you on the trail! Talladega, the name says it all! DegaQue, synonymous with Talladega...The "King of the Pit" barbecue competition was fantastic - what a showing with some top teams across the country! We had the privilege of competing against the best of the best this past weekend and what a time it was. Congratulations to all the teams who competed - especially the top 20! It was an adrenaline rush with the sounds of racecars and trucks flying around the speedway, engines roaring, while we cooked some hard-core barbecue not far away. Action on the track...action outside of the track...crazy competition both on and off the speedway. Having pulled of 15th Overall at our 1st event outside of Georgia made us proud. Taking 3rd Place in Ribs (beating out the "Godfather of Ribs", Johnny Trigg) sent us reeling out of our skin! Meeting new BBQ brethren, cooking for the Moore's Marinade team, Kenny Schrader and his team, and once again making some great friends in the process was just great. Thanks to everyone who took the time to come out and support a great competition! Job well done to all...
